Admission Arrangements

Starting Primary, Infant or Junior School

If you would like a place at Park Lane Primary School you must apply to Reading Borough Council . We do not deal with waiting lists at the school. It is the same process for all primary admissions (in year or joining the school for Reception) if you live in Reading (ie. pay council tax to Reading Borough Council) and

  • have a child born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013 and want a place for them in a reception class in a state school in the 2017-18 school year or

  • have a child currently in an infant-only school who will transfer to year three of a primary or junior school in September 2017,

This applies even if you are interested in one or more school(s) outside of Reading Borough.

It may not be possible to offer your child a place at Park Lane School.  This will be because the school was oversubscribed and your child did not get a place according to the oversubscription criteria.  For details of the Oversubscription Policy please look at page 18 of  the RBC Primary Guide 2016-17 .

If you live outside the Borough of Reading, you should apply to your home local authority even if you want a place in a Reading school. See our Useful Links for School Admissions page for contact information for neighbouring local authorities.

Park Lane Infant School has a comprehensive transition arrangements for starting your child in our reception classes and have the expectation that all families will accept a place for their child starting in the Autumn term. Following confirmation from Reading Local Authority, we invite all parents to attend a general introduction meeting. Subsequent visits provide more detailed information and allow time for you and your child to become familiar with our Foundation Stage area, staff and other families who will be joining the school.  Visits to your child’s nursery/pre-school and home visits also form part of the process.  It is difficult to get the right balance for transition as children have a wide variety of experiences when they join us, from full time day care to only a couple of mornings at playgroup. Our routine has been proven successful over a number of years and the Foundation Stage team are very experienced at what they do.  However, we do appreciate this can be a difficult time for working parents and encourage parents to support each other with child-care arrangements.  We review our transition policy each year.  We only get one chance at making your child’s experience of starting school a positive one. Please do come and talk to us if you have any worries at all about this transition period.
